While many people in and around the country have been saddened by the death of former president Jerry John Rawlings and have poured in their condolences, Afrifa Akoto, whose father, General Akwasi Amankwaa Afrifa was executed in the June 4 uprising thinks otherwise.
Akoto Afrifa in a series of posts rejoiced over the death of the former president and stated that it was not tragic enough.
His first post mentioned the fact that the day was a happy one for him. He went further in another post to state that he approved “this death”.
In a later post, Afrifa wrote that “this death is not tragic enough”.
Akoto Afrifa’s posts on Facebook have since received a lot of backlash from social media users with some saying that it is “unGhanaian to rejoice at the death of someone…”.
It would be recalled in the history of Ghana and politics that Akoto Afrifa, whose father, General Afrifa was one of the eight army generals who were executed by the late Rawlings and his Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) in the June 4 uprising in 1979.
