Nurses and midwives across the country are beginning a strike today Monday, September 21, 2020 over their Conditions of Service.
It comes after the failure of the New Patriotic Party (NPP’S) government through the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service to come into a conclusion and an agreement to give these Nurses and Midwives an improve conditions of service.
A circular or notice by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association noted “having reconvened within the meetings persisted 15th and 16th September 2020 the posture of the Employer changed for the higher but didn’t meet the expectation of the bulk of Nurses, Midwives, Physician Assistants and authorized Registered Anaesthetists in Ghana.
The statement, therefore, directed its members to remain far away from work until the outstanding issues are addressed with their employer.
Meanwhile, the High Court on Friday granted a temporary injunction application by the National Labour Commission against the strike.
The move by the court presided by Justice Frank Aboagye Rockson is to prevent the Nurses and Midwives from their industrial action.
