The management of Ghana Education Service GES, has refuted rumours and Social Media claims attributed to the General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Mr Thomas Musah that government is yet to pay legacy debts.
Legacy debts are simply money’s owed Ghanaian teachers by the previous Mahama government since 2012 and was inherited by the previous Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo government. These legacy debts are amongst some of the poignant reasons why President John Dramani Mahama lost the 2016 election.
The Ghana Education Service GES, says it is utterly shocked and amazed with certain writings and statement attributed to Mr Thomas Musah that the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service owes teachers legacy arrears.
The statement says that they have paid all teachers their Legacy arrears with the exception of few of them who the GES has on countless occasions asked them to submit certain documents for perusal so that they will be paid.
