The Ghana Scholarship Secretariat will offer scholarships to Ghanaian students totaling about GH¢80 million in the 2020/2021 academic year when schools reopen.
Speaking to the media on the issue, the registrar at the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, Mr. Kingsley Agyemang saidabout 45000 to 50000 Ghanaian students will benefit from the scholarship awards to pursue various programs at different tertiary institutions.
According to Mr. Agyemang, the scholarships will vary from Diploma programs, first degrees (Bachelor) to PhDs.He admits that currently, the Secretariat has moved from the stage of applicants to the stage of candidates for all applications received.
The Scholarship Secretariat is now doing verification of data just like the educational institutions in the admission process to be absolutely and resolutely sure that all data given to us are valid before we can issue the award letters.
Also, we are anticipating that by the second week in September, 2020 we will issue the award letters to all deserving Students for them to pursue their educational goals.
This years award will be an overwhelming improvement over last year’s awards. 21000 scholarships were given to students as compared to the over 45000 scholarships ready to be issued in 2020.
Therefore, the Nana Akuffo Addo’s government is using this medium to improve the education of the Ghanaian citizens at higher levels. Most importantly those at the masters and PhD levels are very key to the Scholarship Secretariat in Accra.
Mr. Agyemang concludes by assuring all those who have applied for the scholarship but failed,
not to feel despair but try next year as they may increase the quantum again for the 2021/2022 academic year
About hundred thousand 100,000 applications were submitted to the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat for processing in the 2020/2021 academic year.
