Everyone has dreams. Dreams to be greater. Dreams that see them becoming a better version of themselves than they are. While others work to see their dreams come true, others are just too lackadaisical to leave dreamland. Is it not an already known fact that dreams are always better than reality anyway?
There was a young girl who was no different. She was an everyday normal girl. Happy home, good friends, quality education and dreams, her dreams. Dreams that were way bigger than her very self. Her mother called her ambitious. People wondered how such a young girl would have such big plans, such big dreams. Like the song says though, when you dream, dream big as your dream might come true. And did she dream! At 13 years old, she already had her life planned out. She had so much she wanted the world to see. So you can imagine her joy when a promise was made. A promise that would help her see all her dreams come true. She was ecstatic, over the moon even. She lived with a smile on her face. Her dreams were finally going to be fulfilled. Sadly, just when she had almost realised her dreams, just when her dreams became a reality, a single text message came. One that shattered all her dreams. A text message that said the promise will not be fulfilled. A text message that said they cannot do it anymore. That they are done. No sorry, no regrets, just that they are done. A text message that left her hopeless in a world that once gave her so much hope, so much to look forward to. She was left in the middle when she was so close to achieving her dreams. She could not go forward or backward. She was just stuck in the middle.
Many a time, people do not realize the amount of power their words and actions are backed by. Promises are meant to be broken, they say, but why should it be so? If they cannot keep their promises, why make them in the first place? When they decide to break their promises, do they ever have the person they promised in mind? Do they at least have the decency to feel sorry?
Promises are sacred. They should not be words people can just speak into the air because they can. Promises give hope. Promises create opportunities. Promises give life. Promises bring happiness. A young girl had her dreams shattered because someone could not keep a promise. What was her fault anyway? After all, even in a world of no hope, a girl is allowed to dream, right?
