A person has died while two others are in a critical condition after a clash occurred between some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at Nkrankwanta in the Dormaa West District of the Bono Region of Ghana. The clash occurred after some gunshots were fired over the weekend, Saturday, August 8, 2020.
The Member of Parliament of Dormaa West constituency, Ali Amiga Halidu, while confirming to Joy News, accused the NDC of busing thugs from Sankore and Kasapin in the Ahafo Region of Ghana to intimidate members of the NPP in the area. He accused the alleged thugs of setting some vehicles on fire which included a pick up car and motorcycles and also destroying the party’s office. The Member of Parliament stated that the deceased by name, Kofi Stephen, was a member of the NPP whilst one of the injured persons belong to the NPP and the other is an NDC supporter.
Vincent Oppong Asamoah, the former Member of Parliament for Dormaa West, has however denied the accusation leveled against the NDC, about the busing of thugs to fight the NPP. He also denied the allegation that some members of his party burnt some vehicles and vandalized the NPP office. He however said some aggrieved people who may not exactly be members of the party could have caused the disturbances. He again accused a member of the New Patriotic Party of firing a shot at a registration center.
The two injured persons, Mallam Illiasu and Kwame Grutan are meanwhile receiving treatment at the Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital.
