Today,is a public holiday on the Ghanaian National Calendar. It is called the National Founders’Day in remembrance of all the gallant soldiers, both young and old, men and women who resisted the oppressors rule by hook or crook.
This is a day set aside by the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, in accordance with the laws of Ghana, to celebrate and remember the men and women whose toils, efforts, sacrifice, etc built this beautiful country of ours.4th August has been chosen as the date for Founders’ Day in Ghana pretty much because it marks two important events in the history of the Gold Coast and the Republic of Ghana today. It is the date for the formation of the Aborigines’ Rights Protection Society by John Mensah Sarbah in 1897, and the formation of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) the first Ghanaian political party in 1947 by Joseph Boakye Dankwa(J B Dankwa)
Many gallant young men and women, fought, laid down their lives and might for the pursuit of this country. They fought to take us out of slavery and the brazen disrespect that the white man was subjecting our people to on a daily basis.
On this day we celebrate the big six which includes the First prime minister and President of the Republic of Ghana Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and all the gallant soldiers who fought in pursuit of our indepedence.
