Once again, Former President John Dramani Mahama has waded into the debate of the ongoing voter registration in Ghana particularly what is happening in the Volta Region.
In the run-up to the beginning of the registration exercise, the President of the Republic of Ghana, acting through his Interior Minister and the Inspector General of Police, security operatives were churned out across Ghana’s borders to prevent foreigners from entering into the country to register.
This decision did not go down well with the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as they accused government of targeting Volta and Oti Regions because it is their strong hold. They claimed government want to intimidate the people of Volta Region, their gold mine from coming out to register in their numbers for the fear of intimidation. They opined government want to do this to rig or for the want of a better word, win the 2020 election.
The flagbearer and Presidential candidate of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama has waded into this debate, as he has posted a video where he claims security officers and NPP hoodlums and thugs are beating and preventing people from registering in the NDC’s strong hold. In his post he chided President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, called him divisive,a not peaceful, someone who cannot unite and a discriminatory President.
