The wearing of earrings as we all know is a symbol of womanhood and a sign of identification. A pair of earrings usually depicts feminity.
In other cases, it is worn to build self confidence by making girls feel they look beautiful.
The wearing of earrings has been going on and remained popular for over 7000 years. The origin of earrings is ancient Asia. Egyptians would once wear to show the fact that they were wealthy or of a higher standard. Also, in ancient Rome, earrings were worn only by slaves and in ancient Greece it is worn to identify prostitutes.
One would be able to tell which part of the body earrings should be worn just by looking at the name ‘earrings’. But what do we see in recent times? People have made piercing of other parts of the body a habit.
In this modern life, we see people piercing body parts like eyes, nose, tongue, navel and other sensitive parts of the body. Others also pierce their ears more than they are supposed to. Even after the piercing of all these parts, they put the earrings which is meant for the ear at these places.
This is to say that most people don’t know the value and significance of wearing earrings. It has changed from tradition to mainly fashion.
As said earlier, earrings are worn by women to show womanhood and identification. But, again in recent life, we see men and boys who wear earrings. Most young boys do it with the notion of it being fashion.
Also, most guys pierce a lot to show they are gay and sexually submissive. Just in case you don’t know what it means when a guy wears earrings, it sends a message that says he is gay and he is attracted to men.
Despite the fact that wearing of earrings may work against men in many situations, it does not stop them from wearing it.
There are several references in the Bible also concerning earrings and piercing. Earrings are mentioned in several places in the Bible as well, find out.
It says in Exodus chapter 32 that (Aaron said to them, ‘Take off the gold earrings which your wives, your sons, and your daughters are wearing and bring them to me’). This Bible verse shows that even in the Bible, earrings were worn by both men and women. In Ezekiel 16:12, the Bible says ‘And I put a ring on your nose and earrings in your ears and a beautiful crown on your head’. These piercings were common in biblical times and are employed quite commonly today. Yet your intentions and where you pierced does matter to God.
