Honorable Haruna Iddrisu, the Minority Leader in parliament, has said in a latest media briefing that, government is secretly recruiting supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party into the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police and the Immigration Service.
According to him, he and his members have been informed about the over 1,600 personnel already recruited although public advertisement of vacancies have not been done as stipulated by law.
Addressing a media briefing in Parliament, the Tamale South MP said “the attention of the Minority has been drawn to a secret recruitment in the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service and Ghana Immigration Service.”
“The last time the public witnessed a public advert in accordance with the constitution and the public services requirements and regulation was in 2017. So we are asking how come in 2018, 2019 and 2020 there is no official public recruitment advertised giving notice to Ghanaian citizens to prepare themselves for recruitment into these important state institutions and agencies,” he asked.
He indicated that the idea of a public notice is to allow every Ghanaian desirous of joining the security agencies to apply and go through a rigorous process before being recruited into them.
He said the reports if true, “raises a fundamental question of efforts to politicize the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police and the Immigration Service.”
“And that only young people belonging to a particular political party are deemed qualified and are being recruited for this purpose,” he added.
He says the Minority is concerned about the development and he will be requesting the Interior and Defence Ministers to respond to the issue.
He further added that a future NDC government will reverse the unlawful recruitment.
