The Interior minister for the republic of Ghana,Hon. Dominic Nitiwul has reveal the rationale behind the deployment of the military personnels to some part of Ghana.
Speaking in a press briefing, organised by the Ministry of Information, the Minister explained that, last year, the president ordered for the deployment of soldiers to the northern boarders, under an operation named ‘operation conquered fist’ from 21st February 2019.
He stated that, this recent deployment,is a continuation from last year’s.
He further revealed that, the soldiers are not only in the volta and Oti region as purported in the media but northern, north east, western and other boarder towns has got their fair share of the deployment.
He said, the real reason for the deployment of the soldiers and other security personnels is to stop citizens from neighboring countries who, despite the closure of the Ghana boarders still find means to come in as such act has overwhelmed the immigration service.
Hon Nitiwul also said, all those especially the member of the NDC, insinuating that the soldiers are only in volta region is a mischief, since the soldiers will not be at any polling station but rather stop foreigners from registering.
He assured the chiefs and people of volta region that, they can register and vote in the impending voter registration exercise and elections without harassment from any military.
